What to watch

Balance on offense

Last week, the Falcons achieved the perfect balance on offense. Matt Ryan threw the ball 34 times and handed it off 34 times. A Ryan scramble for five yards meant Atlanta finished with 35 rushes. This balance hasn’t been achieved for a long time, but finally the right personnel is in place to make it happen.

Expect Tevin Coleman to get the lion’s share of the carries and Devonta Freeman to be used in a complementary role. Striking balance is a commitment Quinn and Kyle Shanahan want to make, so expect more of this.

Coverage on Odell Beckham Jr.

How will the Falcons plan to deal with Odell Beckham? He will have received a lot of attention when game planning this week, and it will be interesting to see the plan in store for him. The Cowboys were successful in limiting his effectiveness last week, with the second-year receiver making just five receptions for 44 yards. Here is how they achieved this, and it’s possible the Falcons have a similar plan.

Pressure on Manning

The pass rush came out of its hibernation last week and was impressive against a strong Eagles offensive line. The Giants protection isn’t as strong and the Falcons should be able to put Eli Manning under pressure. I foresee Vic Beasley’s first NFL sack coming in this game.
