Falcons vs. Redskins: Leonard Hankerson eyes revenge

Leonard Hankerson was one of the signings that went under the radar for the Atlanta Falcons around the NFL. Full of potential coming out of the University of Miami, his career failed to take off as a member of the Washington Redskins, but now he gets a little retribution against the team that let him go.

“Hank” has quickly become a great second option for Matt Ryan and the Falcons as his role continues to grow weekly, and with the lingering injury concerns of Julio Jones, Hank Time could very well be in full swing against the Redskins on Sunday. For Hankerson, it will solidify his abilities that were hindered in Washington.

Call it revenge or retribution, but when a competitor is passed up by his team and teammates, the burning embers of retaliation burn violently within and normally fuels the efforts of preparation before the games begin. And as Hankerson looks across the field at his old teammates, these sparks will quickly give way to a raging inferno as it becomes the time to reveal his worth that Washington failed to realize.

When it’s time to play ball, Ryan will find a lot of success against a decent Washington secondary which has has played well on the outside, but their Achilles heel has been those short to intermediate throws.

With a good run defense, Atlanta’s hot running attack may find limited success, which is bound to open some doors for Hankerson and others to be weapons offensively. The combination of Jones and Devonta Freeman will draw the most attention, but the former Redskin is bound to cause a lot of chaos to Washington’s defense.

Sunday’s game is setting up for a coming out party for Hankerson, and having the opportunity to do so against the team that drafted him. Everything is lining up to make this performance all the sweeter for Hankerson.

Hankerson projection: 7 catches, 80 yards and a touchdown
