This week I spoke with David Rumsey, editor of The Pewter Plank, which is our FanSided affiliate site that covers the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s great to be able to get a Bucs perspective on Sunday’s game and the season up to this point. Here’s the five questions I asked.

After selecting Jameis Winston with the first overall pick, what’s your take on his performances so far, and is he the man to turn around the fortunes of the franchise long term?

DR: I have to say that he has improved almost every week. There were a few setbacks, like the Houston and Carolina games, but overall he seems to be getting better. They key for him is limiting the turnovers and knowing when he can’t be aggressive. I do think he’s the Bucs guy and that could really show by the end of this season, no matter the team’s record.

Tampa Bay is No. 6 in total defense, No. 5 against the pass and No. 15 against the run. What will be the key to slowing down the Atlanta Falcons?

DR: Well I’m not sure that the Bucs have anyone capable of covering Julio Jones, so that could be a real problem. Our pass rush has been getting better, our defense is dependent on turnovers. If Matt Ryan is smart with the ball and no one fumbles, the Falcons may not be slowed down at all.
