2. Stop the run

The Panthers are No. 3 in rushing offense behind the legs of Jonathan Stewart and Cam Newton. They are a powerful, run-first team and their ability to commit to the ground game puts defenses behind the eight ball often. The Falcons must find a way to limit the Panthers on the ground and force Newton to throw the football.

If Newton has to become a passer for the majority of the game, the Panthers become a much less dangerous team. Sure, Newton can throw the football pretty well too, but the key is take away the Panthers’ biggest threat on offense, which is their ground game.

1. Stop Cam Newton

Whether he’s throwing the football, running the football or handing it off, the Falcons must be able to limit Cam Newton. You’re not going to stop him, but you need to be able to make life difficult for him.

It goes back to taking advantage of opportunities. If Newton throws a bad ball, make a play and take the ball away. Newton can’t be allowed to run the show which he so often has this season. If he is able to run and pass at will, it’s game over.

To win, the Falcons must stop Cam from dancing in the end zone.
