3) Falcons 28, 49ers 24: November 20, 1983

White shoes

I’m sure most of you have heard the name Billy “white shoes” Johnson before, but you probably aren’t familiar with his play at wide receiver back in the 80’s. Johnson was known for his signature dance in the end zone after scoring a touchdown, but no touchdown was greater than his against the San Francisco 49ers in 1983.

with the 49ers leading with 2 seconds remaining in the game, Steve Bartkowski launched a hail marry that fell roughly five yards short of the end zone. Instead of the ball being either batted down or intercepted, the pass was deflected into the hands of Johnson who then side winded his way through the defense and dove into the end zone with the ball stretch out as far as he could get it.

After a short delay, the refs ruled it a touchdown which gave the Falcons one of the most miraculous finishes in NFL history. Luckily for Falcons fans, the league did not have instant replay at this time. Wink face.
