Atlanta Falcons: Five potential safeties from 2016 NFL Draft
SS Tony Conner, Ole Miss – 6’0 217 lbs
Conner is a pure thumper. Even though he is a heavy hitter, Conner is also a sure tackler and one of the better tacklers in the entire draft. His strongest suit is coming down in the box and providing excellent run support. Conner is not bad in pass coverage and can provide support there as well. One of Conner’s underrated skills is his superb football IQ as well as his discipline which is exactly what you need on the last level of defense. With three seasons at Ole Miss, Conner totaled 152 tackles and an impressive 18 tackles for loss.
Conner is exactly what Atlanta can use on the back end. His attitude and his approach to the game will rub off on young guys such as CBs Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford. His production is clear evidence as he was second on the team in tackles in tackles in 2014 but he missed a considerable am0unt of time in 2015 due to meniscus tear and lingering issues. As long as he overcomes that hurdle, Conner can be that bully in the secondary.
