Round 2: Jalen Collins – C-

It was a rough rookie season for Jalen Collins. Collins was selected in the second round and was hoped to come in and help the defensive backfield. But as many predicted, it would take time for the LSU product to adjust. There wasn’t a great deal of joy for Collins as a rookie, but he can build on his experiences entering 2016.

One of the drawbacks for Collins leaving college was his lack of experience. He had only played 10 games at LSU, so it was hardly surprising he failed to adjust right away to life in the NFL. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote that Collins played “with talent over technique” last spring. He also referred to him as a “work in progress”.

It’s never fair to judge a player after just one year in the NFL. That’s not what we’re going to do, but there is a lot for Collins to work on moving forward.

Dan Quinn will want to help him develop into the player he can become. Quinn envisioned Collins being his Richard Sherman, but that won’t happen overnight. A strong offseason heading into training camp will help Collins bounce back in his second year.
