7. OC replacement

At the beginning of the year, it appeared that Kyle Shanahan was a godsend to the Falcon nation as he and his offense scored with ease. But, then, untimely turnovers in New Orleans derailed his system and the Falcons season.

As a coordinator, there’s no question that it must be a difficult position, but these people are paid a lot of money to make adjustments against defenses to continue to move the ball towards the end zone. But, as defenses were making, Shanahan continued to dial up an offensive scheme that was very vanilla in its creativity.

You must give Shanahan this: he was able to help the arrival of the phenom, Devonta Freeman, who was a beneficiary of this scheme. But, before this saves his job, remember how effective the Washington Redskins were under him and how they continued to struggle to get over the hump. And the first year without Shanahan as offensive coordinator, these same, struggling Washington Redskins get into the playoffs.

Long gone are the days when Atlanta had one of the most feared offenses in the league, and, until the top is taken off of Kyle Shanahan’s offensive play-calling, we have seen the extent of this offense. And, if you didn’t like it this year, there’s little chance that you’ll like it if they were to keep him.
