6. Tight end upgrade

First off, give a lot of credit to Jacob Tamme who stepped up for the Atlanta Falcons this year, becoming a security blanket for Matt Ryan. But, let’s face it, everyone knows that Jacob Tamme is not the sort of tight end that this offense needs-if anything, he’s a perfect second option at the position, but should not be the first.

This is the part of the list that must be handled expeditiously, and the “wait-and-see” approach for this position cannot be tolerated as this team continues to pull from the tight ends in free agency that amount to little or no value for this offense. Albeit Tamme was an exception and had a good year in his first time with Atlanta, he is not the best option for this team.

What they need is to find a player like the one that Greg Olsen has become in Carolina. And, though that may be a reach, there possibly are some options in Colby Fleener in free agency or taking one in the draft like a Hunter Henry from Arkansas or O.J. Howard from Alabama if they’re available after the first round.

Neither of these guys will jump off the page to you with Rob Gronkowski type numbers, but they are a tremendous upgrade at that position, and it’s an area of concern that must be dealt with quickly. If it’s not, then this offense will continue to be reliant on the health of Julio Jones in the passing game and it’s never a good sign to have your entire passing attack center around one player.
