The Atlanta Falcons dodged a bullet this week after defensive back’s coach Marquand Manuel was not selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars to become their newest defensive coordinator.

If everything goes to plan, Manuel will remain with the Falcons and continue to coach the defensive back’s but that doesn’t mean that the team won’t be looking to change up the coaching staff before it’s all said and done.

Dallas Cowboys secondary coach Jerome Henderson is expected to meet with the Falcons about a possible defensive coaching position but he might not be the only coach the team brings in for an interview.

Eric Mangini who has spent many years in the NFL as a coach was let go by the San Francisco 49ers yesterday and will likely be picked up by another team fairly quick. Mangini coached the 49ers’ defense in 2015 and was not retained by new head coach Chip Kelly.

Managing spent five seasons with the New England Patriots as the defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator before becoming the head coach of the New York Jets. Since then, Mangini has coached the Cleveland Browns as well before being hired as the 49ers tight ends coach.

While with the Jets, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn served as his defensive line coach for the 2007-2008 season before heading off to the Seattle Seahawks.

Mangini has done it all. He has been an assistant, an offensive coach, a defensive coach and a head coach. He also spent time as a on-air studio analyst for ESPN and appeared on several shows for nearly two years.

It’s unclear what position Mangini would be taking over on the Falcons, but his NFL mind is something that the team needs. He is a proven coach and has worked with some of the best coaches to ever do it such as Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick.

Should the Falcons at least interview Mangini and see if they could come to terms on a position for him? I think they should.
