Atlanta Falcons move defensive backs coach Raheem Morris to offense
The Atlanta Falcons are expected to make some coaching changes.
Dan Quinn appears to be reshuffling his coaching staff. The Atlanta Falcons are expected to hire former Cowboys defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, and also move Raheem Morris to offense.
Here is what D. Orlando Ledbetter of AJC.com wrote on the coaching changes:
"“The Falcons are expected to hire Jerome Henderson as passing game coordinator and move Raheem Morris to the offensive side of the ball on Monday, according to reports.Henderson, who was formally Dallas’ secondary coach, interviewed with the Falcons on Friday.”"
So let’s get this straight, Morris will be coaching the wide receivers?
Morris has spent his entire career as a defensive coach. Go all the way back to 1999 when he was defensive backs/special teams coach at Cornell. He’s spent most of his career as a defensive backs coach, moving around from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins and now finally Atlanta.
To say it was surprising to hear that he will not only switch roles, but move to offense would be an understatement. But there has to be a reason Quinn wants to make the move. Maybe his experience with defensive backs will help provide a different perspective for wide receivers.
Morris will also play a role alongside Kyle Shanahan as a passing game coordinator. This could be beneficial as he’s spent so much time with defensive backs that he knows how they think.
But at this stages, that’s about the only explanation that can be made.
Let’s hope the moves work. What are your thoughts?
