Round 7: S DeAndre Houston-Carson, William & Mary

The Falcons finally get another pick in the seventh round after having to sit out of the fifth and sixth round. With this pick, Atlanta could turn to DeAndre Houston-Carson, a young prospect who could be developed in Dan Quinn’s defense.

It’s tough to find day one starters in the seventh round, so the Falcons could look to add a player for the future. Houston-Carson is listed as a safety, but has previously played cornerback. It’s uncertain whether he’ll transition back to corner in the NFL.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote:

"“Houston-Carson exudes confidence and football intelligence on the field and plays with the swagger of a D-1 safety. In coverage, he is instinctive and responsive and trusts his eyes. While he is a ready, aggressive tackler, he still needs more beef on his frame and has to fine tune his angles to the ball to eliminate some of the big plays he has had a hand in.”"

It’s tough for the Falcons in this draft class given the fact they only own five picks. Losing a fifth- and sixth-rounder puts more pressure on finding talented players in the other rounds.
