Atlanta Falcons: Five reasons why Matt Ryan will dominate in 2016
2) Mohamed Sanu will take the pressure off of Julio Jones
Whether you like it or not, newly acquired wide receiver Mohamed Sanu paired with Julio Jones is going to be a lot better than what Roddy White was able to give the Falcons. White even stated that Kyle Shanahan didn’t want White and it’s pretty obvious that he wanted Sanu so having a receiver that your offensive coordinator is actually looking forward to working with is a very good thing.
Sanu is a jack of all trades kind of receiver who has a ton of upside. We don’t really know how good he can be but what we do know is this. He’s a very reliable receiver. He has just 15 drops in 157 career receptions and had zero drops in 2015. He’s also never had injury problems. He’s going to be on the field a ton and can lineup wherever you ask him to. Even at quarterback.
It’s time to stop crying over the team signing him and look at the bigger picture. The bigger picture shows Ryan having a lot of weapons at his disposal and a good offensive line in front of him to protect. Having Sanu on the field will take some of the pressure off of Julio Jones which will keep him healthier and will hopefully extend his career another year or two.
Let’s face it. With the workload that Jones has received in the past two seasons, he won’t be able to go much longer without something bad happening. The time is now to stop that and throw the ball around more. Let’s see if Sanu can in fact be that guy.
