Matt Ryan has more support

You could make an argument that Matt Ryan had Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman playing at a high level throughout the 2015 season and you would be right. Many quarterbacks could only dream of having those two on their team. But outside of these two stars, there wasn’t anything to get excited about.

Too much burden was placed on Jones to succeed and when he wasn’t open, Freeman was relied on to get it done. Roddy White’s production crashed into a wall which resulted in his release after 11 years in Atlanta. Leonard Hankerson — acquired via free agency a year ago — suffered from a severe case of the drops and couldn’t string a run of games together without getting hurt. He, too, was cut.

Enter Mohamed Sanu. Sanu isn’t a star wide receiver, but he’s talented and will give the Falcons an upgrade at the No. 2 spot. With second-year Justin Hardy joining the party, the trio looks much stronger.

The Falcons’ offensive line put together a solid season in 2015, but there were some deficiencies at the interior positions. It hasn’t been completely fixed as of yet, but signing center Alex Mack gave the offense a major upgrade right in the middle.

Ryan is now surrounded with more talent, and that was crucial.
