Should the Atlanta Falcons draft Darron Lee if available?

According to NBC Sports and ESPN beat reporter Vaughn McClure the Atlanta Falcons are working out Ohio State weak side linebacker Darron Lee on Thursday.

This will be Lee’s first private workout and it’s for a team that is expected to be very high on their draft board. Lee ran an absolute stunning 4.43 40-yard dash at the 2016 NFL scouting combine which ranked first amongst all linebackers participating.

Lee had 81 tackles and 7.5 sacks for Ohio State’s 2014 and had 66 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season.

The Falcons are in desperate need of help at the weak side linebacker position. The Depth chart is looking very thing at the moment with Sean Weatherspoon the only current weak side linebacker on the roster. The Falcons elected to cut 2015 starting weak side linebacker Justin Durant after the season was over.

The Falcons currently hold the 17th pick in the draft and Lee has been mocked to them by several prominent sports writers. It’s unclear as to whether or not he will still be available once the Falcons are on the clock but if he is, he will get considerable thought.

Next: Three potential first-round options for the Atlanta Falcons

He isn’t projected to be a pro bowl caliber player coming out of college but what he is projected to be is an opening day starter. He would instantly take over the Falcons’ starting weak side linebacker spot and would be able to learn from Weatherspoon for at least one season.
