Atlanta Falcons News: Chris Chester re-signed to one-year deal
There was some big news in the NFL yesterday. The Atlanta Falcons might not have to deal with cornerback Josh Norman twice a year anymore. That is, of course, assuming he doesn’t sign with an NFC South team. Norman’s franchise tag was rescinded by the Panthers.
And how about that trade by the Eagles and Browns? Philadelphia missed out on Marcus Mariota last year, but isn’t going to pass up the chance to get a quarterback this time around. The question is, will it be Carson Wentz or will it be Jared Goff?
As you sip your coffee this fine Thursday morning — now just a week away from the 2016 NFL Draft — enjoy these articles from around the world of the Atlanta Falcons.
Carolina Panthers rescind Josh Norman’s franchise tag — Kevin Patra of NFL.com
This is pretty big news. Josh Norman is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and the Panthers effectively just released him. It would seem his demands were too high, and the Panthers decided to rescind his franchise tag which now makes him an unrestricted free agent. Wow.
Falcons bring back veteran guard Chris Chester — Vaughn McClure of ESPN
Maybe the Falcons’ concerns at right guard have been lifted, at least eased. Chris Chester has returned to Atlanta on a one-year deal worth a maximum of $2.8 million. Will the Falcons still address the position in the draft?
Falcons’ Julio Jones, Matt Ryan weigh in on early retirement trend — Vaughn McClure of ESPN
Retiring early is becoming more of a trend among many NFL players. This year, Calvin Johnson and Marshawn Lynch stepped away despite still having tread left on the tires. Julio Jones and Matt Ryan weighed in on the trend.
Browns trade No. 2 pick to Eagles — Phil Sheridan of ESPN
Another blockbuster trade has been made, with the Philadelphia Eagles moving up from No. 8 to No. 2. The Eagles can go get their quarterback to develop under Sam Bradford, while the Browns can stock up on assets. Interesting trade.

Potential landing spots for Josh Norman — Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com
Where could Josh Norman land? Let’s assume it won’t be the Falcons. As much as it would be nice to see a former Panthers play in the Falcons’ secondary, the price tag will be through the roof. Teams don’t let their best players walk away for nothing for no reason. Did the Panthers try and trade him? Possibly. They felt the last resort was to let him go, and Atlanta shouldn’t go get him.
