The Atlanta Falcons used their third-round pick on Stanford tight end Austin Hooper and that put’s three tight ends on the roster that have a shot at making the final 53.

But, will they wind up keeping all three or will they run with two? Jacob Tamme is a lock to make the roster unless he were to get hurt so it’s going to come down to whether or not Dan Quinn want’s to keep Levine Toilolo or not.

Toilolo was drafted to replace the great Tony Gonzalez and that has been a complete fail. The 6-foot-8, 265-pound tight end has never lived up to expectations and would merely be a third option for the Falcons in 2016 behind Tamme and Hooper.

What Tamme brings to the table is experience. He’s a reliable target and is coming off of his best career season. He will be able to contribute out on the field at a high level and teach Hooper everything that he knows.

What Hooper brings to the table is potential. He’s a tight end that can run and catch and that’s what they have been missing ever since losing Gonzalez to retirement. Hooper is never going to be another Gonzalez but what he could potentially be is a tight end that makes a couple of pro bowls and gives Ryan that security blanket that he has been missing.

So, back to the original question. Will the Falcons keep all three tight ends around or is Toilolo as good as gone?

I’d say there is a pretty good chance that all three make it this season. The Falcons don’t have a ton of wide receiver depth especially if they don’t retain Eric Weems and Devin Hester so having someone like Toilolo on the roster that can play special teams fairly well would be a smart move.

He would hardly every see the light of day on offense, but he would be a solid special teams’ player so expect him to make the team out of camp. If not, it’s been a fun three years, Levine. Well, not really.
