Atlanta Falcons: Throwback uniforms could return for new stadium
By Kit Anderson
Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay does not believe there will be new uniforms when they move into their new stadium in 2017.
McKay does, however, hope to see them use more throwback uniforms in future seasons, per Vaughn McClure of ESPN.
"“We’ve worn throwbacks for a number of years, (but) when we weren’t allowed to wear the red helmets (2013), then we have not worn throwbacks (since then),” McKay explained. “We’re going to go back and find ways and put our throwbacks on. As you’ve seen them potentially with the black helmet, we’re going to try and get that back in our routine.”“We have many options. We can go black with white pants. We can do whatever. But we’ll go back and we’ll use the old logo. We like to celebrate history. And our players like it.”"
While there are some NFL uniform rules that they will have to work around the idea of bringing back some of the uniforms from years past is one that I find very exciting. There have been a lot of changes to the uniforms over the past years namely the changing of the logo. While I do like the new logo revisiting old Falcons uniforms is something that would be enjoyable for all fans and especially those of us who remember the older uniforms.
Throwbacks are usually hit or miss. The Steelers found that out the hard way, their throwback jersey makes them look like a cross between a yellow jacket and convicts in their yellow and striped shirts. Gladly the Falcons have no such throwbacks and will hopefully choose one of their best.
One of my personal favorites is the all black uniforms that the Falcons used to wear not that long ago. While I am not sure that they could qualify for a throwback uniform I hope we see them return at some point over the next two seasons. First things first however before they can start to ponder something as simple as uniforms going into 2017 they first need to focus on building some momentum heading into the new stadium.
