Atlanta Falcons: Pre-training camp 53-man roster projection
By the time most of you are reading this, Atlanta Falcons’ training camp is officially underway. We are finally though the long, ever so boring NFL offseason and are finally ready to get back into the swing of things with camp.
If you didn’t already know, camp beings today at 10:00 a.m. at Falcons’ headquarters in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Fans are able to attend almost every day so if you live in the area, make sure to stop by and cheer them on!
As far as football goes, the Falcons have 80-plus players shooting for just 53 spots. Cuts will be made periodically throughout training camp with the last coming well into the preseason. And since camp is starting today, we thought it would be a good idea to predict what the think the final 53-man roster will look like come week 1 of the season.
Let’s dive right on in.
Quarterbacks: Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub
Backs: Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Terron Ward, Patrick DiMarco
WR’s: Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Justin Hardy, Nick Williams, Eric Weems, Devin Fuller
TE’s: Jacob Tamme, Austin Hooper, Levine Toilolo
OL: Jake Matthews, Andy Levitre, Alex Mack, Chris Chester, Ryan Schraeder, Bryce Harris, Wes Schweitzer, Tom Compton, Mike Person
DL: Vic Beasley, Grady Jarrett, Derrick Shelby, Adrian Clayborn, Ra’Shede Hageman, Jonathan Babineaux, Tyson Jackson, Courtney Upshaw, Joey Mbu
LB’s: Deion Jones, Paul Worrilow, Sean Weatherspoon, Philip Wheeler, De’Vondre Campbell, Brooks Reed, La’Roy Reynolds
CB’s: Desmond Trufant, Robert Alford, Akeem King, C.J. Goodwin, DeMarcus Van Dyke, Jalen Collins (Not counted in initial 53-man roster due to suspension)
SS: Keanu Neal, Kemal Ishmael
FS: Ricardo Allen, Robenson Therezie
ST: Matt Bryant, Matt Bosher, Josh Harris
We’re not going to list starters and the practice squad members because why? Starters are one thing, but trying to predict the 10 men that will makeup the Falcons’ practice squad is nearly impossible and not something we should worry about at this point in time.
As far as starters go, we need to see at least a week of practicing to see where Dan Quinn has players lined up. That goes for which position certain players will play as well. But for now, this is a pretty safe 53-man roster projection. There aren’t any head scratchers nor any extreme cuts so that’s good. You can almost count on at least 45-48 of these players projected to make the roster to actually make the roster.
