3. Matt Ryan

4th Best QB in the NFC South? LOL: Matt Ryan (20-30, 240 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 0 interceptions, 5 carries, 23 rushing yards: 19.90 Points)

In his second year under the Kyle Shanahan led offense, Matt Ryan looks better than ever.

After a week 1 defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay, many claimed that Ryan is the fourth best (worst) quarterback in the NFC South. Two weeks later, Ryan has proven to be the best QB in the NFL throughout September.

The Boston College product didn’t have an overwhelming statistical day by any means against the Saints, letting the run game carry the load, but he made the big plays when they needed to be made: moving the chains and marshaling touchdown drives all night.

Julio Jones being inches out of bounds on that aforementioned second quarter play took away what would have been a three touchdown performance for Ryan. That was a point of frustration for fantasy owners, as was the fact that Tevin Coleman had three rushing touchdowns near the goal-line.

“Mattie Ice” is still the highest scoring quarterback in fantasy football three weeks in, however. The fact that he only has one turnover in three games is also a very welcome sight.

Analysis: Matt Ryan has solidified himself as a QB1 in fantasy football, and is now owned in more than half of NFL.com leagues. On paper he’s in for a tough matchup against the Panthers next week, but it would be hard to justify putting the top scoring fantasy QB on your bench. Keep rolling with Ryan while he’s hot.
