While the headlines are constantly being flooded with the legitimacy and fire power of our seemingly unstoppable offense, our defense has not been getting commended in the same manor.  However, believe it or not, this year’s defense is different and vastly improving and Falcons fans should be excited.

The Atlanta Falcon’s defense has dwelled inside somewhat of an obscure, harrowing cave over the past few years that has essentially impeded the team, keeping us anchored in the unpleasant waters of mediocrity. Last Year, Coach Dan Quinn shaped the defense into something somewhat respectable but let’s admit it, it was no “Legion of Boom”, instilling fear into the petrified eyes of opposing offenses.

However, with the ferociously formidable state of our fire-powered offense, we don’t necessarily need a “Legion of Boom” or a “No Fly Zone” to contend. We also don’t need to be constantly frantically chasing our opponent’s offense around all over the field for 60 minutes either. What we need is an above-average, turnover oriented, bend-but-not-break defense that incessantly strives to put the ball back into Matt Ryan’s hands. This very type of defense will suffice and be enough to keep us in contention and let me assure you, the personnel for this dream defense does lie on our current roster.

While our defense is indeed giving up boat-loads of points, believe it or not, despite the statistics during these first 8 games, seams of light are beginning to seep through the sporadic cracks and holes of the once obscure cave holding our defense captive, and the light at the end of the tunnel is increasingly revealing it’s indulging face.

Our defense is certainly on track and getting closer to this above-average, turnover-hungry defense we are all yearning to see and I believe this consummation can be seen as early as playoff time which would significantly fortify the team in the post-season. We have the personnel and talent, the team just has to put it together. Here’s why I believe our defense is gradually progressing towards dominance with every ensuing game.
