With the NFL Shop looking back over their jersey sales for the month of May, the Atlanta Falcons were honored to see Julio Jones and Matt Ryan in the top 20 for overall sales
They’re definitely moving up in popularity. After winning the 2016 NFL MVP and going to the Super Bowl, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has cracked the top 20 for jersey sales in the month of May. His favorite target, wide receiver Julio Jones, fared even better. He was not only number nine overall, but according to JuliaKate E. Culpepper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution his was the most popular jersey in the state in which the Falcons play.
"“Jones, entering his seventh season as a Falcon, landed at the No. 9 spot and was also the best selling jersey in the state of Georgia.” — Culpepper via The Atlanta Journal-Constitution"
Ryan was drafted third overall in 2008 out of Boston College. He took over a franchise that was still on shock over the arrest and sentencing of Michael Vick, who had been their starting quarterback. Ryan immediately began winning games for the Falcons and saw all his hard work recognized when he won his first ever league MVP.
Jones was also a first round pick, but cost Atlanta much more than that. They traded five picks to the Cleveland Browns to move up to number six for the right to secure Jones’ services. The talented receiver was a star at Alabama and the Falcones believed he was the missing piece to their puzzle.

Offensively they’ve been nearly unstoppable with these two working together as Jones ranks first in the NFL in receiving yards per game. It’s not a surprise at all to see their names rank so highly with some of the most popular jerseys in the league.
