Atlanta Falcons: Three potential training camp stars
By Randy Gurzi
1. Damontae Kazee, DB
And the number one player set to get a lot of attention during training camp is rookie defensive back Damontae Kazee. The San Diego State product is a bit undersized at 5-foot-10 and 184-pounds and played outside of the power conferences. While both those issues explain how Atlanta got him in the fifth-round, he could still turn heads simply because he’s a playmaker.
In four seasons playing for the Aztecs, Kazee had 17 interceptions. He had 15 of those his final two seasons as he put up eight as a junior and seven more his final season. While his future in the NFL is still unknown (Atlanta may look to him as a corner or a safety) what is known is his ability to make plays on the ball.
What Kazee will have to do to make sure he has a lasting career is be smart about his ability to read the passes though. In college there’s more room for error, which leads to some players taking several risks that pay off. In the NFL, taking too many risks could be a bad thing for a player trying to make a name for himself.
In training camp though, people will love his ability to find the ball. Hopefully for the Falcons, he can keep doing it as his career continues.
