Atlanta Falcons: Damontae Kazee keeps making plays
By Randy Gurzi
He lasted until the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but Atlanta Falcons defensive back Damontae Kazee is already showing that he should have gone higher
Some skills just transition smoothly from the collegiate level to the NFL, like having a knack for creating turnovers. San Diego State defensive back Damontae Kazee is already proving that to be true as the fifth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons just keeps making plays in the early part of training camp.
During the first couple of practices he already made an incredibly alert one handed grab for a pick, which came off a batted pass.

Now the rookie is again making plays, despite saying he has a long way to go in his transition from cornerback to free safety — giving himself a ‘D.’ That grade looked a bit low if you take his latest highlight reel pick into consideration. Kazee and his 5-foot-11, 176-pound frame was able to leap with tight end Joshua Perkins and his 6-foot-3, 230-pounds frame. Kazee got one hand on the pass intended for Perkins, and was able to wrestle it away for the exciting turnover.
Of course it’s still early, but the fact that a fifth-round pick keeps popping up is highly encouraging for the Falcons. Kazee was considered a talented nickel prospect, but part of the reason he lasted so long was concerns about if he fit there or safety better. On top of that, it was an incredibly talented class of defensive backs.

Those factors seem to have worked well in Atlanta’s favor as Kazee looks to be every bit of the ball hawk he was in college where he recorded 15 interceptions over his final two seasons.
