All offseason there’s been talk about one of the running backs for the Atlanta Falcons being locked up via a long-term contract. That back is of course Devonta Freeman, who has 22 rushing touchdowns and over 2,000 yards the past two seasons. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, he and the Falcons have said they want to work something out to keep him in Atlanta.

Behind him is Tevin Coleman, a second round pick in 2015 that really performed well as a second-back last season. While Coleman thrived as a pass catcher, he did still average 4.4 yards per carry. He also had 11 total touchdowns, eight of which came via the ground game.

Then there’s rookie Brian Hill. He was a fifth-round pick out of Wyoming, but was incredible his final two seasons for the Cowboys. As a sophomore he had 1,631 yards and six touchdowns, and as a junior went for 1,860 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns.

All that points to running back Terron Ward being at the bottom of a very crowded position. He played in just five games in 2016 and has only 60 carries to this point in two seasons with Atlanta. Ward has shown some ability, but could be done thanks to a logjam of talent.
