In a recent poll on the Blogging Dirty Twitter, Falcons fans predicted that corner back Robert Alford would lead the team in interceptions.

Alford is definitely an enticing choice, as he is known for his ball-hawking abilities and most fans still have the pick six in the Super Bowl fresh in their minds. However, he didn’t lead the team in interceptions this past season.

In fact, linebacker Deion Jones had the most interceptions for the Falcons in 2016 with three, though Alford was close behind with two.

A major factor in Falcons players’ final interception totals next season could be the return of Desmond Trufant. While Trufant isn’t known for his hands and usually doesn’t rack up interceptions, his tight coverage on opposing receivers likely means that players such as Alford or Jones will get more targets, and therefore have more opportunities to create turnovers.

Whatever the case, the Falcons defense will be exciting to watch in 2017. With several young and athletic play-makers, Atlanta has the potential to be one of the best defenses in the NFL this coming season.

On Good Morning Football, Alford commented on the Falcons in this coming season:

"It’s about to be a big year for us. We haven’t lost too many key players from last year’s team. [Desmond] Trufant was the only guy who wasn’t there for us during the Super Bowl run. This year, just from that Super Bowl alone, the thing coach [Dan] Quinn preached about was to remember that feeling at the end of the game. Everyone was hurt, everyone was mad. I think that will propel us into this year to become great and having that feeling from the Super Bowl will help us finish this year strong.”"
