Three Keys To A Falcons Victory – Week 8
Don’t Rely Too Heavily On The Run
Last week, against the Patriots, I noticed a myriad of Falcons running plays on second-and-long as well as third-and-long. The run was not effective until late in the second half.
The running game is vital. Especially when you have two dynamic running backs in Atlanta’s Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman.
Involving both Freeman and Coleman is imperative to the Falcons success.
However, running is not the only way to utilize this elite Atlanta tandem.
Sarkisian should create more involvement for both Freeman and Coleman in the passing game.
Placing either Freeman or Coleman in the slot, could provide a matchup nightmare for the Jets defense.
Former Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was great at utilizing running backs from the slot or wide receiver position. It creates a one-on-one situation that sometimes pits a running back against a linebacker.
Again, running the ball is imperative to victory. Doing so controls the clock and provides rest for the defense.
However, the Falcons should look to involve Freeman and Coleman in the passing game as well. Doing so successfully could open up play calling throughout the game.
If the Falcons can create more successful utilization out of Freeman and Coleman tomorrow, we could see Atlanta take their largest step forward as an offense thus far this season.
