Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has cleared concussion protocol.

On Wednesday, Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn told an Atlanta radio station that Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has cleared the concussion protocol. The announcement comes just days before Atlanta is set to take on the Minnesota Vikings.

What does this news regarding Freeman mean for the Falcons moving forward? Atlanta will have Freeman back on the practice field. Freeman last played against the Dallas Cowboys, where he was removed from the game early on as the result of suffering a concussion. In Freeman’s absence, the Falcons have managed to win three straight games and have now positioned themselves as the current sixth seed in the NFC. As Atlanta nears the end of the season and the their final five regular season games, the individual health and contribution of each player will be important to the team’s success.

Sunday’s game against the Vikings presents the toughest challenge of the season thus far for the Dirty Birds. The Vikings currently sit at 9-2 on the season and have produced a dominate defensive, as well as productive offense. If Freeman is able to take the field on Sunday, his addition would only add to an already solid offensive group. Over the past three games, the Falcons offense has been soaring under offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Adding Freeman into that mix will make Atlanta’s offense that much more difficult to defend.
