With free agency looming the Atlanta Falcons could look for upgrades at positions of weakness like offensive guard with Jonathan Cooper or Xavier Su’a-Filo

Let’s just get this out of the way, Wes Schweitzer was awful at right guard for the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. Ben Garland, who had to fill in at left guard for an injured Andy Levitre at the end of the season, may have been even worse. That means the Dirty Birds have to get better not only at right guard, but at their swing backup in the future if they want to be serious competitors.

The best way to address this deficiency may be in the 2018 NFL Draft. Teams are already beginning their due diligence and  the Falcons are no exception.

However, falling in love with and counting on a player to be available when it’s your turn to draft isn’t always the best formula. The Falcons have to have a backup plan, and find themselves someone they’re fine with starting should the draft not pan out how they hope.

Two options that are set to be free agents this offseason are Jonathan Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys and Xavier Su’a-Filo of the Houston Texans. Both came into the league with a lot of excitement, and neither has lived up to it.

First, let’s take a look at why they should consider Cooper as a free agent signing.
