Nothing funny about the Atlanta Falcons

We all knew as we watched Tom Brady be great and comeback in the fourth quarter of Superbowl LI that the Falcons were going to be the butt of jokes for the foreseeable future. I expected it, I think we all did. However, the jokes are no longer original or funny.

Almost 800 days have passed. Two Superbowl’s have been played. Two NFL drafts have been held. More than half of the NFL head coaches have been fired and replaced. The Saints have blown playoff games, twice.

A lot in the NFL has happen since the Falcons blew a 25-point lead in the Superbowl.

It’s time.

I am at Walt Disney World this week and we were in line for the Safari at Animal Kingdom and I saw a guy wearing a “28-3 Blew Dat” shirt with a Saints hat. I just had to laugh at the sheer stupidity of it. Of all the ridiculous things that horrible fan base does daily, the fact that they cannot let that this go is comically stupid.

I know Falcons fans will agree with me on this, every time a Saints fan talks trash, they bring that game up and when a Falcons fan responds, we get something about their Superbowl from the previous decade or they bring up some nonsense about being victims all over again – I won’t go into specifics on this one, but you all are picking up what I am putting down.

Fact is the Falcons have been the best team in the NFC South this decade and will continue to be. Recency bias will have some of you in arms about that statement. Truth hurts.

The little brother syndrome that is displayed by fan-base from New Orleans has run its course. We get it, your franchise has a Superbowl win; that ended up costing your coach his next season and the Falcons blew a lead in their last appearance.

Its time.

Every great comic, hell every bad comic, changes their material every year. Why? Because things get stale. You can only hear the same jokes so many times, before the person telling that joke becomes a bigger one for not being original. This is exactly where we are with the 28-3 nonsense. The jokes have run their course, there is nothing new that can be or has been said in more than a year and a half. Hell, the Falcons have turned over their entire staff, except Dan Quinn, twice since that game.

I am all about roasting, I enjoy them when they are funny. Anyone that listened to my radio show knows I am all about self-deprecation, you can never take yourself too seriously in life. Like all of you, I took the jokes, laughed at the funny meme’s and kept it moving. They aren’t funny anymore and its time to move on.

Its time.
