The Atlanta Falcons are quietly having a great off-season to this point.

The Atlanta Falcons were able to franchise Grady Jarrett which allows them more time to negotiate a new contract, they decided to keep Vic Beasley (this move will pay off), and cut ties with others to obtain some cap space.

Before the combine, I was all for the Falcons drafting Christian Wilkins to potentially replace Grady Jarrett if he wasn’t brought back. Now that he’s back, there is only one true option at 14.

In a previous post, I mentioned Montez Sweat and how he would be a good prospect to have on your team. Well after the combine, he is THE PROSPECT the Falcons need.

I was impressed by his combine numbers but can you blame me? A guy that is 6’6’ 260 pounds and was clocked at 4.41, which is incredible of any player let alone an edge rusher. He does have some technique issues that can be fixed, in large part due to the fact he will be playing against better competition in the NFL, but his elite athleticism will allow him to be on the field and make plays.

In his two seasons at Mississippi State, Sweat collected 30 sacks against some of the best offensive line talent in the country (Go SEC!). His motor, never in question.

If the Falcons draft Sweat, a pass rush that already includes Vic Beasley and Takkarist McKinley,  gives me the chills. Add in Dan Quinn serving his own defensive coordinator, this upcoming season could be one for the ages.

Next. Holyfield makes sense. dark

My apologies if it seems like I’m making Sweat look like the second coming of Khalil Mack, but I honestly can’t help but be excited if the Atlanta Falcons select him. With Quinn back in charge of the defense, I have no doubt that the Falcons will reach their full potential and get back to the Promised Land.
