Atlanta Falcons: Re-sign the 2016 draft class sooner rather than later
By Matt Siegman
The Falcons were able to select another Pro Bowler in this class when they selected TE Austin Hooper out of Stanford, in the third round. Hooper has been a solid TE for the Falcons and one of the more underrated players on the team. Hooper had a great rookie campaign as he stepped up after Jacob Tamme went down to injury in 2016. 2017 was a disappointing year for Hooper as he had several crucial drops, but bounced back in 2018 with a strong season and being named to his first Pro Bowl. In three seasons Hooper has 1,457 yards and 10 touchdowns.
When talking about a new contract for Hooper, the Falcons should look at Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph because they have had similar numbers. Rudolph’s contract is $36.5 Million over 5 years. I think that is a perfect contract for both Hooper and the Falcons. Hooper has less receiving touchdowns than Rudolph but based on the market and his production this would be a good contract. Just like Keanu and Deion, Hooper is also young and will be turning 25 in November of this year.
