One last time, Deion Sanders is not the greatest Atlanta Falcons player of all time. Never has been and never will be.

GOAT or “Greatest of all-time” is an acronym that gets thrown around way too often. There are many in the Atlanta Falcons fan base that believe that Deion Sanders is the greatest Falcons player of all time and it is honestly time for that nonsense to stop.

  • Biggest mouth in Atlanta Falcons history. Check.
  • Flashiest player in Atlanta Falcons history. Check.
  • Gleefully left the Atlanta Falcons in the onset of his prime. Check.

None of those three aspects qualifies Deion as the greatest player in Atlanta Falcons history. Matter of fact, giving that title to Deion Sanders, is a slap to the face of players like Mike Kenn, Jessie Tuggle, Steve Bartkowski, Tommy Nobis or Claude Humphrey.

The main question becomes – what qualifies someone as being the greatest of all time?

  • Games played?
  • Statistics?
  • Lifting the play around you?
  • Being the centerpiece of which a team builds?
  • Community outreach?

There are has to be undisputed reasons to make someone the greatest of all time in the history of any franchise. While the Atlanta Falcons may not have the history of greatness that the 49ers, Steelers, Cowboys or Patriots do, they have had some truly great players put on the black and red over the last 50 plus years.

To say that Deion Sanders is the greatest of them all is silly at best and travesty at worst to those that truly dedicated themselves to both the organization and the city.
