During the 2018 NFL draft when Roger Goodell announced that the Atlanta Falcons were picking Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley, a lot of fans were perplexed given the needs of this team. Turns out that the pick was exactly what the franchise needed.

Ridley’s rookie year started out with a bang, recording six touchdowns in his first four games. After those first four games, Ridley kind of disappeared for stretches at a time. He would add four more touchdowns over the final 12 games of the year, though he did seem to re-emerge at the end of the year when he recorded eight catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns in the final two regular season games.

Why are we talking about this? Well, given all the attention that Julio receives and the coverage that Austin Hooper is going to command as well, Ridley is going to have an opportunity to catch a lot of touchdowns and could break Andre Rison’s single season record of 15 that was set during his 1993 Pro Bowl season.

Ridley’s role in Koetter’s offense will be very interesting. Sanu has flourished in his role as the slot receiver during his time in Atlanta, will that change for the guy who has been more than anyone expected? Will Koetter move Ridley into that role given his size makes more sense for a slot receiver?

A lot of questions we do not have answers to, but what we do know is that Calvin catches touchdowns and he will have a chance to catch a lot more in 2019.
