A healthy Freeman means trouble for Atlanta Falcons opponents
By Joe Beasley
A healthy Devonta Freeman in 2019 will mean trouble for those that have to face the Atlanta Falcons.
Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is easily one of the more underrated players in the NFL. He has twice gone over the thousand yard mark in his career and while that number might not appeal to most, that’s quite a big deal when you’re playing in an offense that likes to go downfield and at one point, he was splitting time with Tevin Coleman.
Freeman was out the majority of the season and the Falcons offense suffered. Yes, Ryan had one of his best season in his career, even topping the QB rating he had in his MVP season, but the Falcons missed the playoffs.
Had Freeman been healthy, the odds would have definitely been in our favor. Not only would he have helped with the running and passing game, but he was a better blocker than anyone else that played in the backfield; though that is not saying much other than that is one of the few areas of concern offensively.
So far during training camps, it’s been said that Freeman looks more energized. He’s running harder making crisp cuts and catching passes out of the backfield for the team, which unlocks a whole new dimension on offense.
The expectation is the offense to be on a whole new level with a healthy Freeman in the backfield. He’s another target on an already dangerous offense. He going to protect Ryan with his life because a healthy and upright Matt Ryan makes life easier on everyone else.
Don’t be surprised if Freeman get over 1600 combined yards and upwards of 12 to 15 touchdown for the Falcons this season. If that is the case, the NFL is in a world of trouble.
