Atlanta Falcons with last minute game plan Thursday night

Due to field conditions, fans got a much different look at the Atlanta Falcons Thursday night than originally expected.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn told Atlanta media on Tuesday that starters would see limited action Thursday night versus the Dolphins, but we would at least see most of them. Things changed once the team got to Hard Rock stadium for pre-game.

Hard Rock had just hosted a soccer game between Barca and Napoli and then it also rained quite a bit and Dan Quinn was not willing to put several guys out there in those conditions. Falcons fans were left with a heavy dose of Matt Schaub, Ito Smith, Tyeler Davison, Austin Larkin and Allen Bailey.

We did get to see a little bit of Vic Beasley and Takk McKinley, both of which looked fine in their limited action. Allen Bailey, Tyeler Davison, Dedrin Senat, Austin Larkin and Justin Zimmer got a lot of action on the defensive line last night. All of them at separate times were able to generate a fair amount of pressure, which was good to see.

Matt Schaub ended up getting the start for the Falcons and had a much better bounce back game that started that saw him go 7/8 for 77 yards in the first quarter. While there are plenty who point to that performance as a reason to embrace Schaub as the backup quarterback, he still lacks a lot of abilities and intangibles at the age of 38.

Defensively, with Deion Jones, Foye Oluokun and Duke Riley out for the Falcons, Durrant Miles and Jermaine Grace got an opportunity to shine for the birds. Grace took advantage of the extended playing time with five tackles and an interception.

The Falcons will be at home for the first time in 2019 as they welcome the Jets to Mercedes Benz Stadium next Thursday. This will be out first opportunity to see Matt Ryan, Mohamed Sanu, Grady Jarrett and several other regulars on the field this preseason.
