Atlanta Falcons to watch versus the Jets

Calvin Ridley

We have not seen Calvin at all this preseason and we hear he is ready to come out and play. There are many within the walls of the Falcons that believe Ridley can be a 1000 yard receiver this year to compliment the 1500 yards that Julio will undoubtedly have.

The last time the Falcons had a 1000 yard receiving duo was 2012 when both Roddy White and Julio Jones had more than 1000 yards each.

Wes Schweitzer

Wes was more than likely going to get cut at the end of the preseason. With all the depth that has been brought in at guard, he was going to be the odd man out before the preseason ever started. Moving him to center may have actually extended his career.

He has gotten the start the last two weeks and played pretty well at center. Having a backup center is a need this team has and seeing Schweitzer get more reps is a great thing to have as we move forward.

Russell Gage

Russell Gage was on this list last week. With Julio out, he will get the start again Thursday night and this time it will be with Matt Ryan and the rest of the ones. Seeing Gage in Julio’s spot with the ones will give us a much better idea how far he has come as he will face much better competition.

Matt Ryan

This is cheating, I know. However, we have not seen Matt Ryan at all since last season and it is always fun to watch our franchise quarterback take reps. There is no doubt that Matt is itching to get back out there and seeing him throw the ball to Gage and Ridley will be a lot of fun Thursday night.

John Wetzel

He is listed as Jake Matthews backup this week at left tackle, but Wetzel has spent time at right tackle, right guard and left guard so far this preseason. Given his experience in the league and his ability inside, Wetzel seems to be a guy that the Falcons can use as a utility lineman, which is a great guy to have on your roster and something the Falcons could use.
