Atlanta Falcons are perfect fit for Colin Kaepernick

The Atlanta Falcons have been fortunate Matt Ryan has been to stay healthy throughout his career despite playing behind an atrocious offensive line for most of it.

If anything serious were to happen to Matt Ryan, this team would be in a world of trouble. The second best quarterback on the Atlanta Falcons roster, Kurt Benkert, went down with an injury in the preseason and will be out for a while, so where does that leave the Falcons when it comes to depth behind Matty Ice?

Not so good…

Matt Schaub by default wins the backup QB competitions and I’ve already discussed how we don’t need that problem. Matt Simms is also on the team and will and will be cut before the end of the month. The Falcons just signed Danny Etling after he was cut by the Patriots, he more than likely is headed for the practice squad. Needless to say, there is problem and there is a fix that no one is talking about.

Sign Colin Kaepernick.

From a football standpoint, Kaepernick is a better option than any other backup quarterback in the NFL today. He has big game experience and let’s not forget, he was the quarterback of that 49ers team that took down the Falcons in the 2012 NFC Championship game.

He bring a lot to the table and he didn’t have the weapons on that team that he would have with the Falcons.

Everybody knows that the talent is there with Kaepernick, but we all know what this boils down to? Public perception.

How would the Falcons look to everyone else if they were to sign someone who “disrespected our country and those who defend our country?”

As someone who currently serves in the military, I’ve encountered countless people that felt no disrespect by him taking the knee during the national anthem.

Today marks the three year anniversary of the very first time Colin Kaepernick protested the unfair treatment of minorities and former teammate Eric Reid took the same stand on the situation just like Kaepernick. He rightfully got his shot to play in the league again and now plays for the rival Carolina Panthers.

The issue at hand had nothing to do with the military but was a protest for the unfair treatment of minorities. The Falcons have a large group of fans that are African American and would embrace and support the signing of Kaepernick to the team not only because it would help make the team better, but also showing myself, the city of Atlanta and the rest of the National Football league that they stand by his cause.

The biggest reason that Atlanta would be a great landing spot for Kaep is there would be no quarterback controversy. Matt Ryan is a Hall of Fame quarterback and is the starter for this franchise.

Colin would be able to come in and be a great locker room presence for the young players on the roster and would be the best backup quarterback in the league should Matt ever get hurt.

The city of Atlanta and the Falcons fan base would welcome Colin with open arms. Colin has never been a detriment on or off the field. He has always come to work ready to be the best teammate and player he could be and that is the type of player Atlanta gets behind. Atlanta has the ability to see beyond politics regardless of what outsiders may think.

Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons are in the business of winning football games. If Matt Ryan goes down, this season goes down the drain. No one knows his asking price but it wouldn’t hurt to find out. At this point, we assume he knows his next shot in the NFL would be as a backup.

Quinn will unleash the Atlanta Falcons defense this year. dark. Next

Colin Kaepernick is better than any option we have on the team right now and better than any other quarterback options on the free agent market. It’s about time for him to get his shot and for the Falcons to possibly reap the benefits, if the opportunity presents itself.
