Offensive evolution of the Atlanta Falcons under Dan Quinn
By Jeremy Riggs
Then:
- LT: Jake Matthews
- LG: Andy Levitre
- C: Mike Person
- RG: Chris Chester
- RT: Ryan Schraeder
Now:
- LT: Jake Matthews
- LG: Jamon Brown or James Carpenter
- C: Alex Mack
- RG: Chris Lindstrom
- RT: Kaleb McGary
Advantage: Then
Jake Matthews is still here, as he should be. But after that, it’s been a completely revamped offensive line. And for good reason. In Quinn’s first season as head coach, Matt Ryan was sacked just 30 times. A lot of that had to do with the consistency at the tackle positions and guard.
The lone spot that the Falcons have proven to upgrade – is center. Mike Person caused multiple fumbles and they decided quite a few games. This take is more about the fact that Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary are unproven rookies, than me questioning their ability. So take this one with a grain of salt.
- Then: Jacob Tamme, Levine Toilolo
- Now: Austin Hooper, Luke Stocker
Advantage: Now
Austin Hooper is a better receiver than any of the tight ends listed, as he had more touchdowns last season that any of the tight ends on the roster scored all of 2015. Tamme and Toilolo were both capable and willing blockers, however.
Luke Stocker fits that mold as a blocker more, but give the advantage to the team with Austin Hooper who’s a pro-bowl caliber tight end.
