During Thursday’s impressive performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kaleb McGary showed that he has what it takes to be a starter for the Atlanta Falcons.

Now, I know, this was the only game he played in this pre-season due to a heart issue, but still, what he showed in this game is only a sign of whats to come for the Atlanta Falcons 1st round pick.

Everyone knows how much Ty Sambrailo struggled this pre-season and on top of that, he is dealing with an injured shoulder. So, it is extremely likely that we won’t be seeing him in the starting lineup next weekend. I think it would be a good idea to give McGary reps with the first team offense in practice this week. He deserves to start week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings given what we have and haven’t seen thus far from Sambrailo.

He is one of the Atlanta Falcons first round picks, so they obviously saw something in him that made him an attractive pick. He has already proven this off-season that he can battle through adversity and has the will power to succeed. He is the best option the Atlanta Falcons have at offensive tackle right now.

He has a track record of success during his college football career, winning the Morris Trophy during his senior season at the University of Washington for outstanding play in the PAC-12 by an offensive lineman, an award voted by opposing players. He also started 47 of his 53 games during his career, showing great durability for a big man.

What he showed in the game Thursday was quite impressive. He showed his speed and strength coming off the ball, something that will definitely help in the pass and run games. I am not saying he will be a superstar right away. He may not have a lot of experience, but he definitely has the most potential and upside.
