Atlanta Falcons first injury report looks good but leaves an important question
The Atlanta Falcons released their first injury report of 2019 and it leaves us to ask a very important question – who starts at right tackle?
Atlanta Falcons faithful are fully aware that injuries are a part of football. Every week per betting guidelines, I mean per NFL guidelines, each team must release an injury report listing every player that is questionable, probable or out for the upcoming week.
Many coaches, like Patriots coach Bill Belichick, hate releasing this information and will put every player on the injury report. Falcons head coach Dan Quinn has never been that type of coach and the Falcons only have one player on the week one injury report – offensive tackle Matt Gono.
Why does a seemingly third string offensive tackle leave more questions that answers when listed on the injury report? Earlier in the week, Matt Gono was taking the first team reps at right tackle.
Obviously the Falcons traded back into the first round this past April to select right tackle Kaleb McGary, unfortunately for McGary he ended up having to have surgery during training camp that kept him out of most of the preseason, so he is not as in shape as he would like to be and Dan Quinn said that will play in factor into who starts Sunday.
Should Kaleb McGary get the start at right tackle on Sunday afternoon in Minnesota, the Falcons will become the first team in NFL history to have five first round picks start on the offensive line as Jake Matthews, James Carpenter, Alex Mack and Chris Lindstrom were all first round picks themselves.
