5 bold predictions for the Atlanta Falcons this season
By Joe Beasley
JULIO JONES WILL HAVE LESS THAT 100 RECEPTIONS
For the most part, Julio Jones has been a pass catching machine. Over the past 5 seasons, Jones has averaged 104 catches a season including an absurd 136 receptions in 2015. With all the talent on the offensive side of the ball, the pressure for Julio to have all these amazing numbers isn’t there anymore which this season Julio will have less than 100 receptions.
I expect Calvin Ridley to get more balls thrown his way, Mohammad Sanu will get his touches as well. Austin Hooper is as dependable as a target you could have at the tight end position especially on third down.
Let’s not also forget the Falcons have a Devonta Freeman in the backfield who can will get his fair share of targets in the passing game as well as more touches in the run game to help balance out the offense.
This is no knock on Julio but maybe the team ends up being a better team overall when they aren’t completely depending on Julio to make a big play. There are playmakers at all the skill position for the Falcons so the need for Julio to have 100 catches shouldn’t play a big factor in the success for the team.
