The sky will fall for the Falcons with a loss to the Eagles
By Matt Siegman
We can all agree the Falcons lost on Sunday before the game started. They came out flat and unprepared for what the Vikings were going to do on both sides of the ball.
Kirk Cousins only threw the ball ten times and the Falcons lost by two scores. This was a terrible performance on both sides of the ball and they now find themselves in a must-win game in week two. To make matters worse, the Eagles are coming to town.
In the Dan Quinn era, the Falcons have a 1-3 record against the Eagles.
The only win they have was during Dan Quinn’s first year during the 2015 season, when the Eagles had Sam Bradford as their starting quarterback. Since that Monday Night game, the Falcons played the Eagles on the road and struggled offensively in every contest. The last two matchups against Eagles have been painful and one of those losses happened in the Divisional Round in the playoffs.
The only positive for the Falcons is this game is being played at home. Regardless it might not make a difference because the Eagles have a much better defensive line than the Vikings. Do not be surprised if this game has a similar result.
If Atlanta loses to the Eagles the sky will fall for the organization and the fans. Dan Quinn’s name will get dragged through the mud if they start 0-2. Not only will the coaching staff and front office feel the heat; so will ticket sellers, marketing personnel, etc. Atlanta struggled with attendance at the end of last year and with an 0-2 start, the numbers could be even worse.
The Falcons do not have the best reputation amongst fans right now competing with the Braves, Atlanta United, and college football. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Atlanta has fair-weather fans and when the team is not doing well attendance drops significantly.
Currently, Atlanta is a 1.5 underdog at home against the Eagles and cannot lose Sunday because it will damage this season and the future for the organization. Hopefully, they can pull it off but after their performance against the Vikings, no one should have their hopes up.
