Predictions for Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles

The NFL schedule makers did the Atlanta Falcons no favors when they put together the schedule for 2019. With six 2018 playoff teams in the first eight games, the Falcons have to rise to the level of their opponents before the season gets away from them.

Obviously, last week was not what any of us expected to see from the Atlanta Falcons. I have said several times, it is not the fact that the Falcons lost, it is how they lost. They looked ill-prepared and not ready to play ball.

With the Eagles coming to town Sunday night, the Falcons are going to face a defense nearly as good as the Vikings have and the Eagles defensive line is just as good as what they faced in week one.

As good as Carson Wentz is, his wide receivers do most of the heavy lifting. The best attribute that Wentz has is he does not turn the ball over. He is the definition of a game manager as there is in the NFL.

The Falcons have never started 0-2 under Matt Ryan and I believe that trend continues.

Well, you can’t win them all. And the Falcons made sure of that after their season-opening loss against Minnesota. The good news? Matt Ryan has never started a season 0-2. The bad news, the Falcons have lost the past three against Philadelphia. Something’s gotta give. Return home on Sunday night with no Julio Jones contract distraction and the Atlanta Falcons rebound. Plus don’t get used to them scoring only 12 points.

This week, as much as it pains me, I’m picking the Eagles to win 28-20. The Atlanta Falcons showed me that they are still soft on both sides of the ball, while the Eagles looked impressive offensively with a revamped Desean Jackson. Also, the Eagles have had the Falcons number.

The Vikings dismantling the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday was disappointing. Next Sunday will not be any easier and do not be surprised to see a similar result. The Eagles defensive line is better than the Vikings. Even in the preseason the Falcons offense has not looked good and will continue the trend on Sunday against the Eagles. Hopefully, this prediction is wrong and ends up on Freezing Cold Takes.

Next. Five Atlanta Falcons that must play better in week two. dark

This Sunday the Falcons are squaring off against the former Super Bowl champions. While I expect the Falcons to play a lot better, this will be a tough challenge for the Dirty Birds. In order for them to win, they need to be able to neutralize the passing attack of Eagles by putting pressure on Wentz to make sure he doesn’t spread the field wide open and make sure they shore up their run game because I expect the Eagles to run the football better than they did last week.
