Four takeaways from the Atlanta Falcons Sunday night
The offensive line is going to be just fine. Jake Matthews struggled in the first half against Derek Barnett., however, he looked a lot better in the second half. The Atlanta Falcons offensive line held the Eagles defensive line to just one sack and six quarterback hits.
Ty Sambrailo and Jamon Brown looked great filling in for Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary last night. While McGary got the start, he was carted off with a knee injury, though he did come back in the fourth quarter.
James Carpenter has settled in nicely and held his own against Fletcher Cox all night. The behemoth defensive tackle had no tackles for loss, no sacks, and no quarterback hits.
The Falcons were not able to get anything going in the run game, though that was a more on Dirk Koetter for not sticking with the run more than anything.
If the offensive line can protect Matt like they did last night against of one the premier defensive lines in all of football, they will give this offense a chance to be really good as they get cranked up. As we saw back in 2016, the play of the offensive line is going to dictate whether this team can live up to the talent potential.
