Atlanta Falcons continue their road struggles this season

For some reason, the Atlanta Falcons continue to struggle in the first half on the road. Since Dan Quinn has come aboard, they have fared poorly against the AFC. But once again, the talent on this team does not justify the score.

These are pro’s we’re talking about. You get a week to prepare for this team. The Atlanta Falcons have the best receiver in the league, a quarterback who- after the rocky start to this season isn’t elite- but he’s better than more than half the quarterbacks in the NFL.

So, what keeps leading to struggles?

Matt Ryan seems to be looking through drunk goggles. He had seven interceptions all of last season and has already thrown seven this year. That doesn’t add up. In this game against Indianapolis, we’ve seen overthrows, missed reads, accuracy problems. It’s troubling.

Devonta Freeman has finally started to look respectable but that’s not saying much for a $40 million running back.

As each shoddy performance adds up, Dan Quinn’s seat heats up. He’s running a defense that has consistently been gashed in the running game. And with a potential season-ending injury to Keanu Neal, the depth of this team is going to be tested once again.

Which isn’t a good thing considering the struggles of second-year corner Isaiah Oliver. He was supposed to be an upgrade over Robert Alford, Mr. Pass Interference himself, but so far this year, Oliver has gladly claimed that title.

The Falcons have to self-correct. Special teams, penalties, offensively, and make key stops. If not, Dan Quinn will be searching for another job come year’s end. And Ryan’s chances of being elevated to the tier one of quarterbacks will continue to decline.
