Kyle Shanahan

I do not understand the love affair people in Atlanta have with Kyle Shanahan. He was a mediocre offensive coordinator for 12 of his 13 years as an NFL OC and in the biggest moment of his career, he crapped the bed costing Atlanta a title.

There is no reason to believe that he would be any different as a head coach than he was an offensive coordinator and his three years in San Francisco do not scream great head coach.

Sean McVay

He is certainly not a “no thank”, he is a “never going to happen”. While this would be a great hire, he is never leaving LA. When you add his age, lifestyle and the fact that he is under contract until 2023, this makes him a pipe dream.

McVay being from Atlanta may have an interest in coming to coach the Atlanta Falcons, but it would take a lot of money and a trade with the Rams to make it happen. The lure of coaching Matt Ryan and Julio Jones may be one that intrigues him, but I just do not see this happening. Too many moving parts.

Anyone over the age of 50

Football is a young man’s game. The evolution of the sport requires someone with the ability to take a fresh look at what is transpiring on the field and coaches that have been in the league too long or are over a certain age lack the ability to adapt.

Football is no different than any other part of society, but fans think coaches should be different. Look across sports, the most successful head coaches are the ones that can be fresh and evolve with the game.

Bill Belichick is a perfect example, he hires young highly educated coaches that understand the evolution of the game and can keep the Patriots up to date on what football is becoming. Andy Reid is going that way as well. Most older coaches are set in their ways and refuse to change.

Next. Falcons have to find their identity before it’s too late. dark

The decision to replace Dan Quinn as the Atlanta Falcons head coach at seasons end will not be an easy one because he has done a lot of really great things within the organization and he is highly personable. However, when you look at the debacle and the product that he has put on the field, a change is needed.
