From all Atlanta Falcons fans, thank you Mohamed Sanu
Atlanta Falcons fan-favorite Mohamed Sanu was recently traded to the New England Patriots for a second-round draft pick.
This trade, it officially marks the end of his time with the Atlanta Falcons, but his contributions to the team and the community will never be forgotten. Throughout Mohamed Sanu‘s stay with the Atlanta Falcons, he quickly became a fan favorite, known for his strong hands and his history as a quarterback growing up.
At the time of his signing with the Atlanta Falcons, the team was in dire need of another receiving option alongside Jones. The Roddy White era was over and Jones was coming off of a season where he caught 136 passes.
Sanu quickly filled that void, taking some of the pressure off Jones, while also making Matt Ryan‘s job easier. Sanu was one of the reasons the Atlanta Falcons were able to make a run at a Super Bowl in 2016 and had one of the best offenses this century.
His big-play ability was something that every team had to look out for. Whenever he would line-up in the wildcat position, no one truly knew if he was going to hand it off or let it fly. His 51-yard touchdown pass to Julio Jones against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 is the first memory that comes to mind. It was a perfect pass that showed off just how important of a player he was to this team.
Any fan that has ever been to a home game knows just how loved Sanu is by the city. When it’s his time to be introduced, a thunderous sound of 70,000 fans saying “Sanuuuuu” can be heard. Anytime he catches a pass, yet again a wave of “Sanuuuuu” chants can be heard.
While I am sad to see Sanu go, I am also thankful for the three and a half years that he spent in Atlanta. It’s unfortunate that his last game with the team went the way it did, but that’s the NFL.
I am thrilled that he is going to an organization as great as the New England Patriots. Say what you will about them, but they know how to win and utilize the talent on the roster. I have no doubt that he will be a star in New England like he was in Atlanta. He instantly makes their offense better, which is dangerous for the rest of the playoff field.
As dominate as the Patriots have been this season, it is hard to imagine them not winning yet another Super Bowl, which in turn would give Sanu his much desired, and rightfully earned Super Bowl ring.
Thank you Mohamed Sanu for everything that you have contributed to the Atlanta Falcons and the city of Atlanta and good luck in New England.
