Atlanta Falcons: Austin Hooper is similar to Heath Miller
By Matt Siegman
While the Atlanta Falcons have not performed well, tight end Austin Hooper has played extremely well and is establishing himself as a top-five tight end in the NFL.
Last season, in 2018, Austin Hooper made his first Pro Bowl for the Atlanta Falcons. He continues to elevate his level of play and hopefully, the Atlanta Falcons can give him an extension in the near future. Watching Hooper develop throughout his career is going to be fun.
There have been many solid tight ends throughout the history of the NFL, and Hooper is on pace to have a better career than former Steelers tight end, Heath Miller. Miller spent eleven seasons with the Steelers and was one of the organizations fan favorites while playing.
Every time Heath Miller would catch a pass, Steelers fans in the stands would yell “HEATH”. Austin Hooper is similar to Falcons fans in the stand yell “HOOPER” every time Hooper catches a pass. Whenever the Steelers were on the road fans could still hear loud Heath chants for every catch he had.
Last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona, fans could hear fans yell “HOOPER” when he caught the ball.
Both tight ends were/are great as pass catchers and provided an extra weapon for their quarterbacks on offense. Not only were they great at catching, but they were also good blockers. Being able to catch the football and being able to block separates the good tight ends from the great tight ends in today’s NFL.
Hopefully, Austin Hooper will have more career receiving yards for the Atlanta Falcons than Heath Miller did for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Miller never had a 1,000-yard season and racked up 592 catches, 6,569 receiving yards, and 45 touchdowns.
This is likely going to be Hooper’s floor, which would be incredible for the Atlanta Falcons.
