Jim Harbaugh not the right fit to lead Falcons

A coaching change seems imminent for the Atlanta Falcons, seemingly sometime in the next 10 days or so given statements made by Arthur Blank.

There are a lot of opinions around whom the Atlanta Falcons should target as their next head coach, including current Michigan head coach John Harbaugh.

No thanks.

Sure, he had a nice run with the 49ers, going to three straight NFC championship and one Super Bowl in which he lost to his brother Jim and the Baltimore Ravens. However, since that Super Bowl loss, John Harbaugh was fired by the 49ers and has done nothing with Michigan, despite being in control of one of the biggest brands this country as to offer in terms of sports.

What we have seen from Jim Harbaugh is the refusal to adapt to change in the sport he coaches. That is a big reason the Falcons are where they are, having a coaching staff that does not seemingly understand the evolution of the sport they coach.

Over the last six to seven years, Jim Harbaugh has had a terrible record of talent and coaching development. Two of the biggest needs this franchise has are player and coaching development. Look at the franchises the Falcons are chasing, they all excel in coaching development and are able to plug and play when they do lose a coach because they have been grooming the next man up for some time.

Yes, Harbaugh has had some successful runs in college and the NFL. However, his recent history cannot be ignored and should be more important than anything he accomplished more than five years ago. When you look at his overall coaching record, he has never been the guy that can get a program or franchise over the mountain and the Atlanta Falcons would be better off going with a younger, hungrier unproven innovator, than a guy who is going to be exactly what his track record as a head coach says he is.

Next. Matt Schaub should start the rest of the season for the Atlanta Falcons. dark

There will be plenty of coaches available should the Falcons decide to make a coaching change, Jim Harbaugh should not be one of them.
